The purpose of this book is to assist the non English speaking, Hispanic person living in the United States, Canada and Mexico to communicate in the English language. Hispanics represent many nationalities including Mexicans, Cubans, Puerto Ricans, as well as persons from 15 Central and South American countries, and Spain. According to The US Census Bureau, Hispanics are now the largest US minority group. The Census Bureau estimates the number of Hispanics at 38.8 million, out of a total U.S. population of 288.4 million. This is almost 14% of the total population. The number of Hispanics rose by 13 million between 1990 and 2000. Half of the nation's Hispanic population lives in California and Texas. The US Census Bureau has projected that by 2050 the US Hispanic population will reach 88 million or 20% of the total population. Census figures reveal that more than 54% of this population speak Spanish at home.
